Breakfast

3 weeks to go

Breakfast

Join us for a very special breakfast.

Our speaker will be the Rev. Alan Dodds who has an amazing story to tell. He started David Bowie’s first band, The Konrads, and wrote his first recorded song.

For up to 30 minutes, Alan will share his experience through the performance of rock ’n’ roll covers, photos of Bowie and the band, stories, inside information and a Q&A session.

He’ll share the tale of a blind date in ’64 that changed his life, led him to his Christian faith, and eventually to the vicarage. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and reminisce.

The talk is particularly suited to an audience who can remember the 50s and 60s!

AI – and that is Artificial Intelligence

A discussion on power and control, AI, and social media. E.g. “Facebook, Twitter and similar social media platforms provide vast new opportunities for freedom of speech. Yet these platforms also exert unprecedented control over what types of speech are allowed.”

  • In the coming decades, humanity could hand over its autonomy to digital systems most people neither fully comprehend nor control.
  • Technological change promises consequences both economic and moral.
  • Through artificial intelligence and machine learning, engineers are building systems that are as good as or better than humans at accomplishing a range of tasks.

Lent Course

Lent Course 2019 – Grass Roots Disciples

The Diocese of Exeter’s vision is to ‘Pray, Grow Disciples and Serve the people of Devon with joy.’ Last year’s Lent course was about Prayer; this year’s course will be about growing as disciples.

It will be an informal, social and encouraging four session learning series for us, as we look to continue and develop our Christian journeys; to be empowered as disciples, explore the God-given opportunities for growth and mission in the world around us and expand our understanding of our faith, and calling.

It will be held at Talaton Parish Hall on some Tuesday evenings in March and April at 7.30pm. More details to follow but please get the following dates into your diaries.

  • Week 1 – Tuesday 12th March 2019
  • Week 2 – Tuesday 19th March 2019
  • Week 3 – Tuesday 26th March 2019
