Joseph and the Ammazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - Workshop for Children

Community Theatre 4All

CALLING ALL YOUNG PEOPLE WHO LIKE DOING MUSIC AND DRAMA – WE NEED YOU

FOR

“JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT”

We are looking for young people who will be in school years 3 to 8 in September

The ‘Junior Cast’ Introductory Workshop will be held on Saturday 7th September from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in St Mary’s Church Whimple. The afternoon will comprise a range drama and singing activities.

Parents are welcome to either bring their children and leave them for the first 90 minutes of the session or remain in the church to watch the activities. All parents must be present from 3.30pm. At this time full details of the commitments involved in the whole project, from the first rehearsal to the last performance will be given to parents and Parental Consent Forms will be given out. It is also equally important that the Parental Consent Forms are returned on the next meeting date (Saturday 21st September) as, regretfully, without signed Parental Consent Forms we will not be able to accept a young person into the cast.

Performances will be given in St Mary’s Church Whimple in early 2020.

The Creative Team for this project will be Choreographer: Emily Thornhill; Musical Director: Emma Palmer; Stage Director: Tom Samson.

Devon Historic Churches Trust Day -Ride and Stride

Devon Historic Churches Trust Day -Ride and Stride

Devon Historic Churches Day

Saturday 14th September is the day on which churches throughout Devon - and, indeed, the whole country - welcome visitors and raise funds for their Historic Churches Trust. Some special events are held, but the main fundraiser is the sponsored cycle ride for which half the money goes to the participant's own church and half to the Devon Historic Churches Trust. Simply cycle to as many churches as you feel able to during the day, either individually or in a small group, having obtained sponsorship per mile or per church visited. It is a truly inclusive event involving all age groups and abilities.

Whimple has supported this event for many years and in turn the Trust has grant-aided work on our church. The same is true of other villages in our Mission Community. It would be good if this year we could increase the number taking part, particularly some younger cyclists!

However, if exercise is not appealing to you maybe you would rather host a coffee gathering or cream tea, or serve friends a soup and roll for lunch. Perhaps you would find it fun to organise a ‘declutter day’, either on your own or with friends, or open your garden. There is no rule as to how to raise funds for the Trust. Monies raised go half to a church of your choice and half to DHCT.

If you would like to join ‘ride or stride’ on the 14th, sponsorship forms are available from Jane Clements - 01404 822181.

It is also important that visiting cyclists are welcomed to Whimple Church. If you can spare an hour during the day to be in the church please also contact Jane.

  VISION DAY

Date for your diary

Saturday 14th Sept 2019

10am to 4pm

Back in 2014, many of you will remember that we held a vision day at Exmouth Church, to seek God’s vision, help and direction in setting our mission priorities for the years ahead.

The Churchwardens and Clergy sense it is time for another one and St Rita’s centre in nearby Honiton has been booked for the day on Saturday 14th September. Penny Doe, from the Diocesan Mission Community Development Team will be coming to facilitate for us and the day will be set within the context of a Eucharist (Communion) service.

Please get the date in your diary now!!

This day is not just for Churchwardens and PCC members; we ALL have a role to play in being part of the body of Christ in this place. As St Paul writes to the Christians in Corinth (and in East Devon!), “You are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

More details to follow in due course.

Dinner with Rev Alan Dodds

3 months to go

7:30pm Thursday 10th October 2019, Victory Hall, Whimple – Dinner with Alan Dodds and the beginnings of David Bowie

Alan Dodds is an entertaining after-dinner speaker and musician – and has an amazing story to tell. He came to a Whimple breakfast event in January 2019 and spoke a bit about being in David Bowie’s first band, The Konrads, and how he wrote his first recorded song. We were very limited by time and he has so much more to share (and sing!) about his years with David Bowie and also his life since then!

So this time we are inviting him back for dinner.

After a main course, and over dessert and coffee, for up to 45 minutes, Alan will share his experience through the performance of rock ’n’ roll covers, photos of Bowie and the band, stories, and inside information as well as a Q&A time at the end.

The talk is particularly suited to an audience who can remember the 60s or any David Bowie fans! Be prepared to laugh, cry, and reminisce. Please bring your friends!
