Would you like to join us for a ‘Grand Prayer Walk’ on Saturday 1st June?
As part of the Archbishops’ ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ initiative between Ascension Day (30th May) and Pentecost (9th June), we plan to walk between all four villages in the Mission Community—Whimple,
Talaton, Clyst Hydon and Clyst St Lawrence.
The whole walk is approximately 10 miles, or you can join in for part of it depending on your legs! We will be stopping periodically along the route to pause and pray (and eat!) and will be spending some prayer time in each of the four churches too, so if your legs aren’t up to much walking, you may like to join in for that part.
We will be walking, chatting and periodically stopping to pray, inspired by the beauty of God’s creation around us. At each of the four churches we will stop for a break, a prayer and a drink. Our start is at St James in Talaton, we will have a cup of tea or coffee at St Mary’s in Whimple (our arrival being timed to coincide with the regular Saturday morning tea and coffee slot), then pausing again to eat our packed lunches at St Lawrence, in Clyst St Lawrence. After this we will head on to St Andrews, Clyst Hydon before heading back to St James in Talaton.
We first did this as a mission community the year before last and it was a great success, everyone who attended had great fun.
9.30am. Leave Talaton church car park.
11.15am St Mary’s, Whimple
1.30pm Clyst St Lawrence, Clyst St Lawrence
3.15 St Andrews, Clyst Hydon.
We will aim to roughly stick to the timings.
You are welcome to do the complete walk or whichever part most suits you, or just come to the churches to meet us. Stout boots/shoes would be a good idea as our walk is a mixture of quiet country lanes and a few footpaths, plus a waterproof, lunch and a drink. Dogs on leads are very welcome.
In the event of really bad weather will might need to review the plan, but will watch the forecasts nearer the time.
